Jump to it

When: Any weekend of the year!

Where: Parachute centres in throughout the UK

Cost: Raise the minimum sponsorship and your jump is free!

Imagine standing at the edge of an open doorway in an aircraft flying at 10,000 feet – the noise of the engines and the wind ringing in your ears with only the outline of distant fields below. Now imagine leaning forward out of that doorway and letting go – falling forward into the clouds, diving down through the air as you start freefalling at over 120mph! Then imagine the peace and quiet as the canopy opens, the steering toggles come down either side of you and you begin a tranquil parachute descent from a mile up in the air, steering yourself back down to the centre of the drop zone below. Well you can stop imagining because it’s real and you can do it at an airfield near you.

A skydive really is a once in a lifetime experience. You can take part in a tandem skydive, strapped to a professional instructor and freefalling at 120mph, or for the more adventurous you can take a static line training course over 2 days and put yourself in control over heights of 3,000 feet.

How it works

The minimum sponsorship amounts are:
  • Tandem Skydive: £395
  • Static Line Square: £360
From these sums the charity will receive an average donation of £140 and you will receive your parachute jump for FREE!
With this sponsorship scheme you don’t even have to pay all the sponsorship money up front. Raise the minimum amount of funds and you will be allowed to reclaim both the full cost of your jump and the booking deposit from your sponsorship money. The charity’s share isn’t due with us until one month after the event.

What types of skydive are there?

  • Tandem – Technically the jump is called a ‘Tandem Skydive’. It is a Skydive because you will be freefalling through the air (without the parachute deployed) for several thousand feet; it is in Tandem because you will be harnessed to a professional parachute instructor at all times throughout the descent (see photo above). This is the only way you can jump from such an altitude without spending thousands of pounds becoming a freefall parachutist. This is literally the chance of a lifetime! This jump is also much less demanding than the traditional ‘static line’ jump as the jump and training are completed in one day and your instructor will control your landing.
  • Static Line – The jump is in two parts — your training takes place on the Saturday for your jump on the Sunday. During the training you will learn everything you need to know to make a safe and exhilarating parachute jump — the equipment used, how to exit the aircraft, how to operate your reserve parachute and most importantly how to control your landing. The jump is called a static line jump because from the moment you step into the aircraft you will be securely attached to a ‘static line’ which is designed to automatically open your parachute for you as you exit the aircraft. All instructors we use are qualified by the national governing body of the sport and each one is specially trained to teach beginner parachutists just like you!
On the following day (Sunday morning) you will receive a refresher training course going over all the points from the day before and then it’s time to board the aircraft! As you climb to the jump altitude of 3,000 feet you are bound to feel a little nervous — but don’t worry, this is only natural and is soon overcome by the sheer exhilaration and excitement of exiting the aircraft and experiencing the feeling of total freedom as you make your first parachute descent from 3,000 feet.
On completion of your jump you will be awarded an official British Parachute Association certificate to prove that you have completed a static line training course and parachute jump and in the process you will have taken the first step to becoming a fully qualified skydiver! Many people want to go straight up and jump again and as a fully trained beginner parachutist you will be perfectly able to do this!
