Proud to be creating happy lasting families

Celebrating LGBT Adoption and Fostering Week 5 - 11 March

Last year, 1 in 4 of adoptions with After Adoption’s Families that Last service were with adopters who identify as LGBT, compared to 1 in 10 in England with same-sex couples, and 1 in 8 in Wales. Whilst record numbers of LGBT people are coming forward to adopt, many more are needed to parent over 2,500 children waiting for their happy, lasting family.

As part of LGBT Adoption and Fostering Week 5 – 11 March, New Family Social, the UK’s charity for adoption and foster carers, has planned a week of over 60 information events across the UK.

Emma Harris, Senior Marketing Officer, After Adoption, commented, “As a member agency of New Family Social, we actively encourage LGBT people to come to us, believing strongly that diverse children benefit from diverse families. We look at each person’s unique skills and focus on their strengths. Our friendly and experienced team also offers lifelong support and specialist training, tailored to meet individual needs.”

Tor Docherty, New Family Social chief executive, said: ‘This year we’re sharing ten good reasons why LGBT people should consider adopting and fostering – but there are many, many more. We’re delighted that the proportion of same-sex couples adopting in Wales rose to an all-time high last year – but there is still much work to be done to support and encourage LGBT people to adopt and foster, wherever they are in the UK.’
