Building the foundations for a happy future.
Young people who are in care, or have been adopted, face the additional challenge of managing the loss and adversity they have experienced in their early years. Some parents and carers often have to manage an escalation of challenging behaviour, which includes verbal and physical aggression, oppositional behaviour and actual or threatened self-harm.
This valuable programme will help you recognise the changes and transitions during adolescence, and will look at how the impact of early trauma and loss can explain why this group of adolescents can travel a particularly rocky road during their transition to adulthood.
SafeBase in the Teenage Years is based on our Safebase Therapeutic Parenting Programme and specifically addresses the issues faced by parents and carers with teenagers who have experienced trauma in their early life.
This 2 day programme is underpinned by a strengths-based approach that promotes parental sensitivity and helps to build connections and secure attachments within families.
The course will help you gain an understanding of your teenager’s needs, learn strategies to support and help them, how to look after yourself and also get support from peers.
This programme you will help you with:
…and your teenager will feel supported and more secure in themselves.
SafeBase in the Teenage Years can be funded by the Adoption Support Fund. We’d be happy to support you in making an application to the fund.
