SafeBase in the Teenage Years is based on our SafeBase Therapeutic Parenting Programme and specifically addresses the issues faced by parents and carers with teenagers who have experienced trauma in their early life.

After Adoption runs this as a 2 day training programme for parents and carers of teenagers.

The programme is underpinned by a strengths-based approach that promotes parental sensitivity and helps to build connections and secure attachments within families.

The course will help parents and carers of teenagers gain an understanding of their teenager’s needs, learn strategies to support and help their teenager, how to look after themselves and also get support from peers.

What will parents and carers achieve?

This programme will help parents, carers and teenagers with the following:

  • Improved family relationships
  • Improved wellbeing of family members
  • Increased confidence in using strategies and tools in managing behaviour
  • Increased parental sensitivity by providing insight, and context, to their teenager’s behaviours
  • Provide a support network of other parents and carers

What is the cost?

£800 per family. This can be funded through the Adoption Support Fund.
