After Adoption: Helping everyone affected by adoption
If social workers are making plans for the adoption of your child, you may be confused and hurt and want to talk to someone independent. You might want advice about what’s happening and have someone explain how the process works, what will happen next and what this will mean for you and your child.
After Adoption has been helping people in this situation for over 15 years and can help you. We believe birth parents are parents for life even if they are not parenting their children on a daily basis and have the right to be well represented and supported. We recognise the need for adoptions to be more open and that birth parents have a role to play in their children’s future.
If there are plans to adopt your child we can help by listening to what you have to say and by giving you information about the process of adoption. We can support you with contact arrangements for your child and help you write letters and prepare information for them. Talking to others can often help so we can also put you in touch with people going through similar experiences through our birth parent groups.
