Local authorities and their partners in the North East are working together to try and improve adoption services for all children and their families, by developing plans for a regional adoption agency (RAA) that would work across the five local authorities. The local authorities included within Adopt North East RAA are Newcastle, South and North Tyneside, Gateshead and Northumberland. The aim is to create a service that responds to the needs of birth parents and their relatives in a sensitive and specialised way. Understanding the unique experiences of birth parents is very important to improving services.
Adopt North East is consulting widely with children, young people, adoptive parents, birth parents and relatives in order to better understand the issues that are important to them.
So far children and young people and their adoptive parents have been consulted with separately and have provided us with their thoughts, feelings and experiences of adoption to help the RAA to better understand how to work more effectively when delivering services to those affected by adoption living in the region.
Consultation will now take place with birth parents and their relatives, which will look to further understand the key issues and provide further learning, development of service provision in future. This consultation process will allow those involved to give their views and feedback via an online survey as well as a small consultation meeting.
All information gathered at the consultation events and by survey will remain confidential and all who engage will remain anonymous unless state otherwise.
To complete the consultation survey, or if you would like to attend the birth relative consultation event, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org or 0191 438 7980 for further information or to request a space.
