Parenting teenagers can be a complex, challenging, emotionally exhausting and sometimes rewarding experience. The teenage years can be a tumultuous time for many families. Teenagers themselves must navigate a complex and challenging world.
Young people who are in care, or have been adopted, face the additional challenge of managing the loss and adversity they have experienced in their early years. Some parents and carers often have to manage an escalation of challenging behaviour, which includes verbal and physical aggression, oppositional behaviour and actual or threatened self-harm.
This valuable programme will help you recognise the changes and transitions during adolescence, and will look at how the impact of early trauma and loss can explain why this group of adolescents can travel a particularly rocky road during their transition to adulthood.
