The best thing was that we had a social worker from the beginning to the very end, so you get to build a relationship with them.
What makes Families that Last unique is the level of support we provide at every stage of your adoption journey. This includes supporting your new family for life, giving you access to a comprehensive package, including award-winning training, which you can tap into whenever you need it.
We also make sure your family and friends are ready to support you, providing training so they can understand what you’re going to need.
Once you’re matched with your child or children, we’re still here. In fact, our mission as a charity is to support people at every stage of their adoption journey, and that includes supporting your new family for life. We have over 27 years’ experience in a whole range of adoption support services and you can access this at any time. Below are just a few of the services we provide:
Bespoke training for you
Our preparation group training will help you understand the needs of adopted children generally and how you can build a family that will help them thrive.
We also provide bespoke training once we know what children you’re open to adopting, so you can increase your skills and be confident when it comes to having your children placed with you.
For example, if you decide you’d like to adopt siblings, we can provide specific training to better understand their needs and provide the care and support for them to flourish.
Family and Friends training
Your support network is so important when starting your adoption journey. As part of your preparation to adopt, we provide training to nominated family members and friends so that they can learn about the needs of adopted children, and how to support you emotionally and practically.
Our SafeBase programme is the most successful specialist therapeutic parenting programme for adoptive families in the UK. This flexible programme aims to strengthen the relationships between parents and their children, improving family stability. You can read more about it here.
Therapeutic Intensive Adoption Support Services
Our comprehensive range of services, such as child-led play and storytelling techniques, help develop the adopted child’s sense of identity and belonging.
These monthly groups cover a range of topics and help parents build networks with other adoptive families.
Family events and activities
There are many opportunities for families to spend time together and discuss any worries with support workers.
