Family Researcher Volunteer

Location: Wales
Hours: 1 day a week

This is an ideal opportunity for individuals wishing to gain valuable experience in searching for lost relatives on behalf of service users of After Adoption. With help from the Adoption Support Team, you will gain experience in administration, information management, research and development.

We are looking for volunteers who can commit to at least 1 day per week, hours worked flexibly and occasionally remotely and are:

Organised: Good organisation is important for this role due to the information to be collated.

Confident: You will need you to be comfortable and happy with approaching people.

Enthusiastic: You will be assisting service users in conducting searches they are unable to conduct themselves.

Tenacious: You will be persistent and determined in achieving research targets.

Skills you may already have:

  • interest in voluntary sector and fundraising
  • experience in using Microsoft Office packages
  • experience in using email
  • experience in using the internet for researching
  • excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to liaise with others and work flexibly as part of a team
  • ability to prioritise and organise work
  • able to work alone from time to time


Skills you may be looking to improve:

  • running mail merges
  • using databases
  • customer care
  • project management
  • research and methodology
  • knowledge and understanding of charity fundraising practices and processes
  • direct or indirect experience of adoption


In return After Adoption will reimburse your travel expenses along with lunch expenses of up to £5 per day.
